Surrender a Dog

Owner Surrender Assistance Program

If you are unable to keep your dog because of circumstances in your life, we can help you by posting your dog on our website and helping the dog meet prospective adopters.  We call this our “owner assistance program”.  We do not take owner surrender dogs into our foster homes (this does not include dogs that have been previously adopted through our program).  Here is the information on this program:

  • You will be fully responsible for your dog until the animal is adopted.
  • Submit proof of current vaccinations, and spay/neuter to K-9 Lifesavers Dog Rescue.

These are required before we will post a dog on the website.  You can fax them to

          (202) 263-1990 or email us at k9lifesavers@gmail.com.

  • Print the Owner Surrender form, fill it out, sign it, and fax or email back to us.
  • Email us at k9lifesavers@gmail.com up to 4 digital photos and a brief description of the dog.
Be sure to include the dog's age, breed, if the dog is housebroken and how it gets along
with other dogs, cats, and children.
  • You will work with one of our adoption counselor, who will screen prospective adopter applications.
  • You will be required to attend at least two of our adoption events a month.

The more exposure your dog receives the better chance they have of getting adopted.
